ABOUT ME
I was a freshman attending the University of Washington, lying in bed in my dorm room in the middle of the night when I had a strong impression that I needed to serve a mission. No doubts, but a powerful sense of peace came over me. The next morning, I told my bishop of the Seattle YSA ward, I was going to serve a mission. He cried.
So here I am several months later in Berlin, Germany. The Lord with his infinite sense of humor said, "No, not speaking German in Germany; I want you to be preaching my gospel in Mandarin." When I opened my mission call, we all thought it must have been a typo. Surely, this is wrong, we all thought. However, I spent 9 weeks at the MTC learning to speak Chinese. Over the years, I have been involved in many school and community programs and activities; including church, scouting, drum and bugle corps, honors society, gymnastics, and band. I am an Eagle scout and I spent my summers working as a camp counselor at a local YMCA camp. In addition, I have been involved in music and band since I was nine years old. I miss playing the trumpet (and mellophone), but look forward to returning to the UW Husky Marching Band once I am back home. “Our Savior teaches us to follow Him by making the sacrifices necessary to lose ourselves in unselfish service to others. If we do, He promises us eternal life, “the greatest of all the gifts of God” (D&C 14:7), the glory and joy of living in the presence of God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. (Elder Dillan H. Oaks)” |
